Moxibustion

is a traditional East Asian healing therapy that uses the warmth of dried mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) to support circulation, vitality, and the body's natural healing processes. Often referred to simply as "moxa," this therapy has been used for centuries alongside acupuncture to help restore balance and strengthen the body's energetic foundation.

Unlike acupuncture, which stimulates specific points through the insertion of fine needles, moxibustion works through the application of therapeutic heat. The warmth is directed toward acupuncture points, meridians, or areas of the body that may benefit from increased circulation, nourishment, and energetic support. The burning of mugwort produces infrared heat, creating a gentle, penetrating warmth that is traditionally used to warm the channels while supporting healthy circulation, tissue recovery, and overall vitality.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, moxibustion is used to warm the meridians, move Qi and Blood, dispel Cold, and strengthen areas of deficiency within the body.

From the perspective of Japanese Meridian Therapy, moxibustion is highly valued for its ability to tonify and harmonize the meridian system. Gentle applications of moxa are used to support the body's constitutional energy and improve the quality and movement of Qi throughout the meridians. Rather than simply addressing symptoms, treatment seeks to strengthen the body's underlying vitality and capacity for self-regulation.

Moxibustion may be used to support:

• Circulation and healthy blood flow
• Fatigue and low energy
• Cold hands and feet
• Digestive health
• Musculoskeletal pain and stiffness
• Recovery from illness or periods of depletion
• Immune system support
• Nervous system regulation
• Overall vitality and wellness

Various forms of moxibustion may be utilized depending on the individual's needs, including indirect moxibustion, direct moxibustion, needle moxibustion, and smokeless techniques. The method selected is based on your treatment goals, comfort level, and clinical presentation.

At Lucid, moxibustion is often incorporated as a complementary component of an acupuncture treatment when clinically appropriate. There is typically no additional charge when moxibustion is included as part of your session. In certain cases, more focused moxibustion treatments or home-care recommendations may be discussed to further support your healing process.
